Week 13, Question 1

I don't consider myself to be a creative person. I have always had a hard time coming up with creative ideas when it came to school projects, papers, or even decorating my room. Whenever I would be assigned projects at school I would get overwhelmed with the criteria sometimes. I have gotten better at coming up with new ideas as I have grown up. One recent experience where I had to be creative was in the PR190 class that I am taking. A couple of weeks ago we had to write a practice pitch letter about the Beatles music being released on iTunes. The first sentence of the letter needed to be catchy and grab the readers attention. It had to set up the rest of the letter. At first I sat at my computer and stared at the blank screen for a while trying to figure out what I was going to do. After a while as I was going through some of the song titles I figured out a creative way to use Here Comes the Sun in the opening sentence and play off of it. I know that it doesn't sound like much, but my teacher really liked what I did and I got a good grade on the assignment. This was a big accomplishment for me. I think that my recent experience with creativity strays away from the books definition of creativity a little bit, but it was an accomplishment to me and I think that's what makes creativity and achievable goal.

  1. I do not consider myself a creative person either. When I used have to do projects, my poster boards were always the simplest. I would have my sister decorate and design them, so I would get a higher grade. My room basically is a bed with my mother’s choice of a bed spread and matching curtains. You are not alone.
I have realized my creativity does not come from words, but from dance. It is my way of expressing myself. I use to love coming up with dance moves, and would let the music guide me. If only everything could be through dance!

  2. I really enjoyed your post! I consider myself to be a creative person, but I also think that every person is creative in their own way whether they recognize it or not. Even in my own attempts at being creative I've had times where I wanted to be creative but hit a roadblock and couldn't think. Your example of writing your paper was a great example, especially because as a student I can relate to the difficulty of figuring out how to begin writing a paper with an effective introduction. I am glad to see though that you were able to use your own creativity in order to incorporate "Here Comes the Sun" as the opening of your paper... that was really creative of you and even though I have no idea what the rest of the paper was about, it already sounds interesting because of the creativeness of your introduction! :)

  3. I really enjoyed your post and was able to connect to a lot of what you were saying. I myself do not find myself a creative person also, but I have tried to find small ways in which I am. I also think that I think of many things that I would want to do or in terms of writing a paper I think of something but when it comes to writing it I have the hardest time! I do believe that if we continue to try to be "creative" in our own way then we can only get better at it. Thanks for sharing!
